Wow it's been a while since I've written in this thing. Nothing much is new...school is getting more stressful everyday and it seems as though someone is playing a sick joke on me. I honestly cannot handle anymore assignments. This week I could barely keep my eyes open, I was so tired every day. And I work so much, sometimes I think that nobody else does because it's impossible to go to work, do all homework, go to all classes and not end up totally sick and tired and miserable. I've been missing a few classes here and there, but sometimes I physically cannot get up because I am soooo tired. Sleepy and physically tired. In any case, my sanity is the top priority in life so if that means I must miss a day of school then so be it. The world will go on. My roommate's another story however...lol. It's supposed to be nice and warm this weekend and tomorrow I'm going on a picnic!!! woot woot. Can't wait to not be freezing. My roommates and co. are out at the bar for the third time this week. I like it when they go because I can do my work in peace. And I can clean without having to clean around them. hahaha. Ughhhhhhhhhhh I'm currently avoiding writing my choice editorial for tomorrow even though it should be pretty easy. Although I thought other assignments this term were going to be easy and I thought I did a good job on them only to find I did them completely wrong. Maybe my roommate has the right idea. It's better to fail knowing you never even tried once than to fail knowing you put effort into something.

Hurst Women's Water Polo Defeats Gannon

Who knew the match was at Mercyhurst NE? Not me!!! I just barely made it. I was so annoyed that I had to drive all the way out to Northeast. But the girls did win. I had never seen water polo before and it appears to be similar to soccer only in the water. The girls did a good job though, they beat Gannon! Why doesn't main campus have a pool?

So I finally got my pictures posted on here. It only took me a week. Still can't figure out how to get actual links or videos from the web or computer but I'm trying. I'm not computer saavy and now I'm supposed to make a screen cast demonstrating some application to the public. Except I'm not good at anything. The only thing I know how to do is type word documents, browse the web, and make power point presentations. I never really had a fast, efficiently working computer growing up so I never really had the chance to play around and get good at any one thing. I do not belong in this class. ughhhh. School is eating my face.

Yesterday afternoon I went down to Presque Isle to take the pictures for my New Media assignment. It was sunny but freezing which made for kind of a painful trip. I got lots of great shots of all the required things and also some of ice covered shorelines and squawking geese. I've been to Presque Isle countless times because I live in Erie and now the apartment I live in is even closer to the beach. Basically I can't wait until summer because it looks really ugly down there without leaves on the trees! I was hoping to maybe see a turkey or a beaver but no such luck. My favorite thing to do is drive around the entire peninsula and lay on the beach. Except when 15 yr old boys stand 10 feet away from me flying their kites for 45 minutes while I'm trying to catch some rays. After a great summer day by the lake, Sara's has THE BEST onion rings and peanut butter shakes ever.

Unfortunately I used my roommates camera to take the pictures and she can't find the jack which connects to the computer. So if I don't find it (it's probably some where in our apartment) I guess I'm gonna have to redo the assignment on a different camera. Booo.

Just Another Day

Wow! This class is eating me alive!!!! Soooo many things to do...blogger, photobucket and now delicious. YIKES!!!! It's 11:25 pm and here I sit in the library working on some homework assignments that had to get done. Thurdays and Friday's are like totally the worst days of the week for me (other than sat and sun) because I have to go to class all day and then immediately to work. Simply put, it blows.

I'm starting to hate my job more and more every day. Especially tonight. I work at Max and Erma's restaurant and tonight we had a proceed (basically a fundraiser) for Walnut Creek school and it was super slammed. However, every table I waited on was so rude and NEEDY I wanted to scream! The people from this school district were the most unpleasant bunch of customers I have ever waited on in my life. Apparently they need to teach manners at Walnut Creek. Needless to say, by the end of the night, I was thinking so little of this school's students and more importantly the parents it was outrageous. Hope they're proud of themselves.

Social Bookmarking

In response to the homework assignment about Social Bookmarking, I'm not entirely sure what the benefits are in comparison to traditional bookmarking because I've never used it. However, the website delicious.com claims that it is easier because you can access bookmarks from a computer other than your own and also explore new sites by using other people's bookmarks.

Homework Assignment for Stadt:

Photosharing can make my social life better because it allows me to keep in touch with far-away friends and get a look into their lives. Also, it is a way for others to check out my pictures and see how I'm doing. Photosharing may help in business for people in a photography or videography field to show potential employers samples of their work. Of course, there can be problems with photosharing too. Simply put, if you don't want people to see it, don't put it online.

Oh The Luck of the Irish

Today when I left my apartment in downtown Erie and made my way to my Documentary Production class, State St. was swamped with people in green. Mercyhurst was like a ghost town. I found a parking spot with no problem!!!! It must've been the luck of the Irish. After watching this killer documentary on the 1980 Olympic Hockey Team I decided to take a drive down to Presque Isle. It was actually so peaceful down there. I love to just drive around the peninsula and in the summer get out and play or lay on the beach whenever I can. I wish I had figured out how to take still photos on my FLip Video camera because I wanted to post them on here. It was so pretty outside. And I also had to wait for a goose to cross the road. He held up quite a bit of traffic.

St. Patrick's day is also my grandpa's birthday. He passed away a few years ago but I always think about him today a lot. His middle name was Patrick!!! Pretty cool, huh? I really miss him :(

And now my roommates are partying already and I'm trying to finish up some homework before I head out for the night. I hope Erie's college population isn't too incredibly obnoxious.

With the turn of the century and the internet looking like a very promising tool, a large focus in technology was advancing the computer system to make it easier and easier for the American public to use. I can remember the days when my dial up AOL subscription took for-ev-er to load on my old Dell desktop computer. More importantly though, I can remember Computer Class every other Friday when I was in elementary school. We had huge, grey Apple computers and there was one boy in the class who was this computer whiz and we all went to him for help. That's when I learned how to cut and paste! Also, I remember before we got a computer at my house, I had no experience typing on a keyboard so I used to have my friend type my essays in 6th and 7th grade English class so I could get done faster.

Now the new age of the internet and computers as well is advancing more rapidly every day. Web 2.0 which consists of things like high speed broadband internet, social networking groups such as Facebook and now Twitter, and Google as opposed to Netscape is a great generation for today's elementary students to grow up in. There are 5 year old children who know more about computers than my mom! And for me, Web 2.0 is going to take over the mainstream media eventually, it is predicted. So I'm thinking I made a good major choice. Amazing.

So for my New Media class I was supposed to go out and take some digital images of run-down buildings throughout Erie. Fortunately, this is a very easy task. Most of downtown Erie is made up of old factories and businesses that are no longer running and that have been sitting empty for many years. The shots I took come from areas around 22nd and Chestnut Street, 15th and Ash Street, 18th and Holland Street, and several from the Parade Street area. For the most part I am frightened of the neighborhoods because of their high crime rates and I understand that they are located in depressed parts of the city, but it saddens me that these places sit vacant where there is so much that can be done to improve the city.

In other news, school is eating my face along with my job which I can never seem to get time off from. Actually it seems as though when I don't have plans or homework to do I have days off and when I desperately need to get something accomplished, I am stuck at work for 10 hours. Sigh.

I always feel like I am running against the clock. I am such a procrastinator and I cannot judge time so I am always late and rushing to meet a deadline. I try so hard but I am always late. I try to get my employers to understand that it's not them, I'm late for everything. Appointments, school, class, meeting up with friends. Can't help it!!!! I think the world should wait for me. Sometimes it's hard for me to understand that people's lives and the world go on when I'm not around.

My boyfriend's cat keeps jumping on the printer and I'm so distracted by her cuteness now that I must end this so I can pick her up and squeeze her furry little body.

Anyone who works in a restaurant will totally understand where I am coming from in this rant. I was just thinking today that I've been working as a server for 5 years and that it's been way too long. It's good money, sometimes, waiting on tables but I don't really enjoy it very much. I hate waiting on people. I hate being fakely friendly when I'm exhausted and in a terrible mood. Also, I hate what I have to wear. I'm uncomfortable and unattractively dressed. It's no fun at all. People can't eat a damn thing without ranch dressing. It's disgusting. Also, most of the population has no manners and lacks simple math skills. To find 15% of a number, X, simply multiply the number, X, by .15. Voila! And I don't think high school children should be allowed to be served unaccompanied by an adult. Last night I waited on two overly-done up highschool girls and their three jock friends and they graciously left me one of their precious dollars (presumably otherwise going towards condoms and cigarettes). Yes, that's right. One dollar. I was disgusted with them.
Hosting is just as brutal as serving! Ever walk in to a restaraunt and ask for a booth? Well don't. It's annoying and it screws up the rotation. You're food will taste the same, I promise.
If someone can't control themselves, they shouldn't be out in public.
It also seems to me that middle aged women are the rudest demographic. From age 37 to 50 usually. Wicked.
And jr. girls are the most ridiculous. Some can't even order for themselves when a 4 year old can clearly tell you what he wants. RI-DIC

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th...oooh...SPOOKY! Set my alarm for 9:30; didn't hear it until 10:13??? What a stellar start! A day for bad things to happen. Typically a day when someone like me should hide under her bed!!! It wouldn't surprise me if the myth of the day came true.

So I was just looking through all of my syllabi for the last trimester of Junior year and I realized that my life is going to probably spiral out of control. Every class is loaded full of projects, papers, and daily assignments. Including this blog. I'm thoroughly excited though because I'm finally getting into all of my Comm. classes which is why I've been paying to attend Mercyhurst for the past 2 and a 1/2 years. No more waste-of-time classes that I don't care about.

However, with all of these new exciting classes it makes me wonder what I'm really going to do in my life. First I was leaning towards the production aspect of broadcasting but now I kinda want to be a copy-editor because I think that while it may not be as exciting, the market will probably be less competitive. And I can rock it out. Basically. And regardless of my occupation, I MUST live in New York City. That is the goal. But I guess we'll see where this New Media class takes me.

Just bought a new Flip Video camera, got a new laptop for my birthday and I'm about to get a Blackberry once my contract is up at AT&T in a month. Woo hoo!!! Perhaps all of these gadgets will pique my interest as a web designer or something.

It appears that we aren't having class today, either. Considering it should have started 25 minutes ago. I guess I missed that memo. Maybe today won't be so unlucky after all.

21st Birthday

So the highly anticipated birthday of 21 was on Tuesday. March 10th is always my favorite day of the year except this one kinda made me angry because I do not want to grow up and get old. It scares me. Haha. Anyway I got a lot of great presents including a new laptop and some cash. Had cake on Sunday with the fam and then dinner on my birthday with them. Lost $120 at the Casino on Monday night but had a great FREE drink! Went out for some drinks with friends Tuesday...blah blah blah. Hooray!!! Society now sees it fit for me to congregate with everyone else.
